For the Love of Lucite
Ahh, lovely Lucite- our translucent friend used throughout the design world for a contemporary splash or a retro twist. The back story? Lucite is the brand name of a polyacrylic that was discovered by DuPont in 1931. Like our familiar friends Bakelite and Plexiglas, Lucite was used extensively in war supplies during WWII. Post-war, Lucite was repurposed (how green!) into jewelry, furniture, and handbags that are now highly collectible. Go big: consider dotting lucite pieces throughout your reception via furniture vignettes for a decidedly cosmopolitan twist. Lie low: revel in the trend by donning a bauble or two for a fresh take on big day jewelry.
