Parting Ensembles

by Calder Clark on November 13th, 2009

A much-revered Southern tradition, the “outfit change” used to symbolize the subtle shift from Daddy’s girl to newlywed embarking on her honeymoon. These days, many of our brides stroll out of their receptions in their lovely gowns, which is simple and timeless. However, we still see some of our brides choose to depart in the most darling conservative cruise-wear-apropos ensembles involving spritely peplum car coats and colorful capris, replete with delicate ballet flats. Others choose Chanel-inspired dapper little skirt suits or simple colorful shifts, accessorized with super current layered necklaces juxtaposed with heirloom pearls. Still more choose a second dress … often a shorter, flirtier cocktail number appropriate for a late night rug-cutting session at an after-party. Sequins are so “now” as are shorter hemlines and bold color; just be sure to eschew wearing all three trends at once.

Shoes (and diamonds) are a Bride’s Best Friend

by Calder Clark on November 11th, 2009

Lately, we’ve been debating the merits of strappy slingback vs. d’Orsay vs. hidden platform pump and considering how far our girls can push the envelope with their big day kicks.  We might suggest shying away from a white ankle boot (eek!) although we’re quite sure it’s out there. However, weddings have changed dramatically in the past century, as has wedding style…so why not have a little fun? Unlike most bridesmaids’ dresses, wedding shoes can usually be dyed black and have the heel tap changed to match and voila: a fabulous pair of dressy shoes to wear out on the town or to a wedding as a guest- imagine that.

Below are just a few of our latest favorites (many inspired by our savvy 2009 brides’ own buys) and where to snag:

Of course, don’t forget your “Sole Mates” if you’re in or attending an outdoor garden ceremony and reception … brilliant.

If your priorities do not include soles stamped with “Made in Italy”, consider inexpensive shoes sassed up with custom shoe clips from B. Poetic on Etsy:

Southern Weddings Magazine V2: featured!

by Calder Clark on November 6th, 2009

Tonight is the Atlanta launch party for the November 10th release of the Fall/Winter issue of Southern Weddings Magazine, the kind of glossy you dog-ear on every other page, much to the irritation of anyone else who wants to read it after you! We are thrilled to be featured in the article dubbed “60 Ways to Have a Southern Wedding”, especially since we are unabashedly sub-Mason-Dixon-Line ourselves.
